African-American history has played an integral role in the shaping of politics, economics, and culture in the United States. Growing up, how did you learn about the accomplishments and struggles of African Americans? Were you in a classroom? Reading a book? Talking with relatives or friends? How has your understanding or knowledge of African-American history changed and/or developed over time? What do you think is the most effective way to pass along this rich and growing history to future generations?

The African Americans Many Rivers To Cross with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is such a powerful series. I have been sharing and will share videos regarding this because I feel it is not only fascinating but a very important part of history that was not even shared when I was in school and growing up. Thankfully, my elders share and have shared many stories and life experiences with us. I am born and raised in the South. The newer generations have missed this link. It is up to us to make sure our children know and understand. I will be ordering this series on dvd along with the book and share with my future generations as well. Tomorrow the final installment will air on PBS. The online versions are set to expire on 12/9. Be sure to take advantage of this and share it with everyone you know!
