Yes! There are deliberate and malicious blocks and obstacles, including racism, which the latter, by the definition I’m aware of, is inherent in the institutions of American society. And life is not easy for anyone, no matter how it looks. We all have our changes, although certain people and races seem to have and to some extend do have some advantages.

However, I, as a black woman, am and have been covertly harassed to the point of persecution for almost 50 years in this country, and hardly a day goes by that I am not for at least the past 6 ½ years, and that mostly by the black people around me! This includes the highest echelons of this society like The Schomburg Collection in New York City, to the lowest sinks of those with whom I am in close quarters, including many of my family members! I’m sure you’re asking yourself why this would be so; what’s wrong with this woman?

The fact is, however, that people are doing this to me out of envy because I am one of the most excellent people I know, morally, and in every other conceivable way! If you don’t believe me, read some of my books on Amazon, including my 2009 Pulitzer contender entitled, “Nowheresville, Everywhere, Earth.” The rest of my books there have black and green covers.

I’m not a perfect person, but as Audre Lorde, the renowned black poet, prescribed in her book entitled, “Sister Outsider,” I endeavor to be excellent and do my very best every single day and most days I succeed magnificently as anyone who endeavors to do so can and WILL do, as well! I am fed up with Americans’ behavior toward me in general over these many years. I have written about it repeatedly in every forum I can find to no avail. However, the people who are so willing to persecute me in the way they are doing, even after all this time, half a century (!), still seem not to be able to grasp the import of what they are doing, the consequences of their behavior and that I do not intend to lay down and let them with impunity!

The problem with most of the people I encounter, black or otherwise, and which for many years was my own problem, is their inner ATTITUDES from which their actions flow. With most people, it is always someone else’s fault about what happens to them, even when they themselves are plainly wrong or mistaken to anyone objective. This lack of clarity about reality is the real enslaver of people and it is encouraged assiduously by all and sundry among all races. Further, most of the people I do business with and know personally when they are under the slightest pressure behave extraordinarily badly, yet expect and demand that I don’t. Not only that, they’re vastly incompetent and lacking in resource in their jobs as well as in life. They take no pride in their jobs and then blame other people because they CHOOSE to continue to do things day in and day out that they absolutely hate and then feel that they should be able to expect others, particularly ME to do things I hate because they have to!

Also, this is never expressed directly because these people do not know how to express themselves honestly and even if they do, they prefer to use emotional blackmail and other energy vampirism to get their way and to try to control situations. If the solution is not at hand to questions I ask, very few employees take the time to or believe they should look very far to find it. Many are even willing to hang up on me and not answer the phone when I call back!

There are very effective and deliberate ways to gain the clarity one needs. The technique I use is to first ask myself what my motives are before I do things. If they are not affirmative or positive, I find I need to check myself or at least reconsider what I’m about to do. This is not often difficult for me because I have a very good moral compass or director and a good deal of self-control or I couldn’t have survived among you even as long as I have. Second if I feel extraordinarily confused, I ASK my higher self, whatever that may, and it is a scientific premise that most human beings only use 10% of their brains capacity at any given time, so even if one doesn’t believe in a supernatural agency or a god or goddess to put it plainly, then ask whatever extra resources you have inside, even if it is only the 90% of your brain power that you don’t usually use, to give you the clarity you need. This has not failed me once in the several years I’ve been practicing it and no matter how bad I feel, I get the clarity I need, usually very quickly.

Another technique I use is that if I find myself holding on to anger or resentment about a situation and trying to force my way through, I surrender that desire and look elsewhere, and 100% of the time I’ve been practicing this, I have gotten the product, information or whatever I’ve been seeking at a lower price and with a smile. In other words, from my experience, these techniques WORK 100% OF THE TIME! TRY THEM!

These things are often not easy to do, but they are CRUCIAL to all people in overcoming many of the stressors in our lives which multiply exponentially daily. In closing, I’d like to say, “May you have the future of your choice; may you have a thousand reasons to rejoice.” That is what I am set on doing! On person who seems to agree with me is Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor who has praised the wisdom of my tools twice this year, in writing! Blessed be!
