Performance: Bing Crosby and Sons Sing Together

SHARE

Bing Crosby and three of his sons give the African-American spiritual “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” a quick, jazzy beat on his television special in 1960. Crosby’s first four sons — Gary, twins Dennis and Philip, and Lindsay — created the The Crosby Boys quartet in 1959. On this occasion, Crosby stepped in as a replacement in the quartet.

Artists who have recorded “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” include Mahalia Jackson, the Fisk Jubilee Singers, and Elvis Presley.

This is a web-only full version of the performance, which is seen excerpted in American Masters – Bing Crosby Rediscovered. The film premiered December 2 and receives its holiday encore on December 26 at 9 pm (check local listings).
