The Swedish Academy announced today that the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to poet, political activist, and American Master Bob Dylan “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.” For more than 50 years, through poetry, folk and blues, Dylan has told the story of civil unrest. His writing helped elevate the discussion around the civil rights movement and the anti-war protests of the ’60s and ’70s.
