American Masters remembers Broadway legend Carol Channing.
American Masters Executive Producer Michael Kantor interviewed Channing in 1997 for his six-hour series, “Broadway: The American Musical.”
In this clip Channing discusses how musical comedy has its roots in the diverse cultural heritage of the United States. Kantor remembers Channing as, “one of a kind, seemingly bigger than life – what the legendary line artist Al Hirschfeld liked to call an ‘exploded ventricle.’ She not only understood how to define a role, but she was very savvy about what made both musical theater and America great.”
