VOCES Earns Imagen Award Nomination for its Season Featuring Raúl Juliá: The World’s a Stage

American Masters celebrates Raúl Juliá: The World’s a Stage as part of VOCES’s Imagen Award-nominated season in the category of Best Informational Program.

The Imagen Foundation recognizes Latinx talent, celebrating diversity in the entertainment industry. The awards are determined by an independent panel of industry executives and Latino community leaders. Established in 1985, the Imagen Awards program was founded by television producer and American Masters subject Norman Lear to encourage and recognize the positive portrayals of Latinos in the media.  Its mission serves to provide access, education, and resources for Latinos in the entertainment industry.

American Masters — Raúl Juliá: The World’s a Stage is a special presentation of American Masters and VOCES. Produced by Latino Public Broadcasting, VOCES is the acclaimed PBS documentary series featuring the best of Latino arts, culture and history.

“We congratulate Ben DeJesus and our partner American Masters on this nomination; we’re honored to have been able to collaborate on bringing the story of one of our greatest Latino artists to PBS audiences everywhere,” says Sandie Viquez Pedlow, executive producer, VOCES, and executive director, Latino Public Broadcasting.

The Imagen Awards will be presented virtually Thursday, September 24th at 5:00 PM.

The charismatic actor from Puerto Rico was celebrated for the range and versatility he brought to roles on stage and screen, from Shakespearean plays to the “The Addams Family.” Though his career was cut short by his death at age 54, he paved the way for generations of Latinx actors.
