Sam Shaw’s name isn’t well known, but his photographs of Marilyn Monroe are. Here, Shaw’s children reminisce about growing up around Monroe. Shaw was also the brainchild of the famous white halter dress shot from The Seven Year Itch.

TRANSCRIPT

- Well, I guess I was about 15 or 16, the first time I saw her.

And the way she was dressed and her whole demeanor held such an impact on me because of my age and you know, she was like a role model.

I said, oh, this is really, I'd like to be like that.

- Her shoes, her legs, her skirt, her sweater and her hair - [Speaker 1] Her face.

- [Speaker 2] And then her hair were all one color.

She seemed like the perfect blonde angel.

- [Speaker 1] Well, I don't even think it was the name Marilyn Monroe.

It was more - the person. - Yeah I don't think we knew.

I don't think I focused that she was Marilyn Monroe.

- The first time I met her I was with dad and she answered the door and she's wearing a towel.

A towel. And she's holding a glass of champagne.

And all I could think about, wow, she's married to Joe DiMaggio.

(laughter) - Lucky guy.

- That was her impression to me.
