Read Ursula K. Le Guin’s “The Left Hand of Darkness” as part of a special collaboration with ALL ARTS

Hello, readers.

American Masters is excited to announced our partnership with ALL ARTS to read Ursula K. Le Guin‘s genre-defining classic, The Left Hand of Darkness.

As part of ALL ARTS’ Ballerina Book Club, we’ll be coming together to share features and clips about Le Guin, her work, and legacy throughout the month. Join the Ballerina Book Club by signing up for the newsletter to receive future announcements, special surprises, discussion questions and more. You can also catch the latest news and updates in the club house and Goodreads.

The Left Hand of Darkness (1969) is one of Le Guin’s most influential works — and a favorite title of book club host, American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Isabella Boylston.

Set in the future on a world called Winter where gender is fluid, the novel firmly established Le Guin as one of the most influential science fiction writers of all time.

In addition to reading and discussing the novel, we’re streaming the Hugo-nominated film, Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin through Oct. 31. You can watch the full film here:

Directed by Arwen Curry and produced with Le Guin’s participation over a decade, the documentary is an intimate journey through the writer’s worlds, both real and fantastic.

The extended festival version of Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin is available here for download or on DVD. The DVD is subtitled in seven languages and includes three extra scenes and two additional special features. For a limited time, you can receive 25% off using the promotional code: americanmasters.

The co-presentation marks the first of many Ballerina Book Club and American Masters collaborations. Stay tuned in the coming months for special author spotlights and more.
