April Williams

Spartanburg

The woman who has inspired me is my mother.
She to was raped, as a teenager she chose to have the (baby) me.
My mother took comfort in the fact that she loved the outdoors; so much so that it actually saved her I believe from insanity . Her gift to the world is a growing hand in flower’s and plants.
Her artistry in making the community she lives in beautiful from one end to the other is amazing.
She always say’s it will make anyone stop ,and smell the flowers to know they are still alive.
She did not let rape define her or shake her.
She gives back by making sure all neighbors and neighborhood’s in surrounding areas are made whole and not forgotten. Being her daughter I know why the cage bird sings . It sings because its in someone you know. I am her and she is me and saw the beauty in my life . She is more than just a community artist ,she supports her elders, and children in the neighborhood.
That is were I get my knowledge and inspiration from knowing that she loves and know she deserved to be loved even if its just by her flower’s.
Thank you
