Anusheh Ansari was born an Iranian Muslim in 1966. A Persian & French speaker, in 1984, she emigrated to the USA & learned English. She is an Iranian-American engineer & co-founder/chair of Prodea Systems. In 2006, at the age of 39, with a working knowledge of Russian, she became the 1st Iranian in space & the 4th overall self-funded (>$20M) space traveler & 1st self-funded woman to fly to the International Space Station. After returning, she was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey & featured in a film called Space Tourists. Her memoir, My Dream of Stars, co-written with Homer Hickam, was published in 2010. Anousheh earned many advanced degrees & received many awards. a popular speaker, she shares her experiences and discusses her philanthropic work. She lives in Texas.
