Mark Oppenheimer

Squirrel Hill The Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting and the Soul of a Neighborhood is Mark Oppenheimer’s fifth book. He directs the Yale Journalism Initiative, has been a lecturer in Yale’s English department, political science department, and divinity school, and is also the co-host of Tablet Magazine’s podcast, Unorthodox. Mark has also written for numerous publications and was the religion columnist for The New York Times from 2010 to 2016. The Oppenheimers were among the founding members of the Pittsburgh Jewish community. Isaac Oppenheimer, Mark’s great-great-great grandfather, moved there in the 1840s.
