5 Facts About Violinist Augustin Hadelich

In the fifth season of Now Hear This, host Scott Yoo takes a close look the careers of virtuosos, and among them, the career of renowned violinist Augustin Hadelich. A well-traveled, Grammy-winning musician, Hadelich and Yoo discuss music, content creation, the pressures of performing and more.

1) Born in Italy to German parents, Hadelich studied at Juilliard and went on to win the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis in 2006, propelling his career.

2) He won a Grammy Award in 2016 for “Best Classical Instrumental Solo” for his recording of Dutilleux’s Violin Concerto, L’Arbre des songes, with the Seattle Symphony and Ludovic Morlot.

3) He is currently on the faculty of the Yale School of Music at Yale University.

 

4) A Warner Classics Artist, his most recent release is “Recuerdos”, a Spain-themed album featuring works by Sarasate, Tarrega, Prokofiev and Britten with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and Cristian Măcelaru.

5) He currently plays a violin from 1744 by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù, known as “Leduc, ex Szeryng,” on loan from the Tarisio Trust.
