GREAT PERFORMANCES mourns the untimely passing of Jessye Norman, one of the preeminent dramatic sopranos of her generation. Her various appearances on GREAT PERFORMANCES include “Mozart in Salzburg,” “Kathleen Battle and Jessye Norman Sing Spirituals” (both in 1990), and Stravinky’s opera oratorio “Oedipus Rex” directed by Julie Taymor with Seiji Ozawa conducting the Saito Kinen Orchestra (1993). She was 74 years old.
