On October 29 she sang The Star Spangled Banner to open the final game of Major League baseball’s World Series in Kansas City, MO, introducing millions of sports fans to the beauty of her mezzo-soprano voice. Major League Baseball reported that the game between the Kansas City Royals and the San Francisco Giants was the second-most watched league game in 10 years, with nearly 24 million viewers. The opera star did have a personal interest in attending Game Seven: the Kansas City Royals are her hometown team and DiDonato has been a lifelong fan.
DiDonato’s music pitch tonight at 8 pm will go out to anyone with a computer or device that can stream video. Her Venice-themed concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City will be live-streamed over the internet in a webcast. On the program are works by Vivaldi, Rossini, Fauré, Head and Hahn.
As reported in The New York Times, this is the first time Carnegie Hall has ever provided a free, simulcast stream of a concert. Provided in partnership with the classical website medici.tv, the concert Joyce DiDonato and David Zobel: A Journey Through Venice will start at 8 pm both at the famous concert hall and online. The concert can be viewed online for the following 90 days.
