GREAT PERFORMANCES mourns the passing of A.R. Gurney, the acclaimed playwright and novelist whose work has been featured on GP on several occasions over the years, beginning in 1979 with his television adaptation of the John Cheever story “O Youth & Beauty” and then again in 1984 with his acclaimed play “The Dining Room.”  In 2000, Gurney was one of the three librettists for New York City Opera’s one-act opera trilogy “Central Park” recorded at Glimmerglass Opera.  In 2001, the Lincoln Center Theater production of Gurney’s play “Far East” was recorded for THIRTEEN’s drama showcase series STAGE ON SCREEN.
