This excerpt features the Polovtsian Dances section of Borodin’s Prince Igor, which will air in Great Performances at the Met this Sunday at 12 noon on PBS (check local listings). The Polovtsian Dances is one of the most popular pieces of Russian classical music and in this Prince Igor, designed and directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov, the cast moves through a breathtaking field of red poppies. Prince Igor at the Metropolitan Opera is Tcherniakov’s first original work in the United States. Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili has staged the dancing.
