TRANSCRIPT

I grew up in Washington D.C. and my music mentors was the great Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat and Fugazi.

Maestro José Antonio Abreu, that he created the program where I grew up, El Sistema, Venezuela.

And yes, he has been the person that has guided me.

Because I was in inspirational music my musical mentors people think would be in gospel music.

Of course, they are - James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, Tramaine Hawkins, Shirley Caesar.

But I also had mentors like Nancy Wilson, Sara Vaughan, you know, greats like that.

A band called the Bad Brains.

I watched them and that's kind of all I needed to know.

Stevie Wonder and, oh yeah Daryl Coley.

These are angels that we have in our life that guide us through this path - this beautiful and amazing path.
