ALICIA KEYS: This album is just the best album I've ever made so far because it just is...I've just been able to peel back my own layers and start to understand a little bit more of who I am and who am I in the world.
Who am I to myself.
I think we're all pulling back the veil and we're all asking these really hard questions.
Who are we?
Who do we want to be?
Who are we going to allow ourselves to be?
You know?
And this music more than ever reflects the truths of that in a way that I never really could of possibly expected.
CHAD SMITH: You're in tune with yourself.
But now it's really reflecting the times we're going through.
But I think really great art comes from dark times.
ALICIA KEYS: You're so right.
And I think some of the best art is gonna keep coming.
CHAD SMITH: Yeah.
ALICIA KEYS: I really agree.
It's necessary.
CHAD SMITH: It has to, yeah.
ALICIA KEYS: It's necessary, which is so incredible.
One of the greatest things about being a song writer and just a human being is just how connected we are.
Just when you think you're the only one going through whatever it is that you're going through - when you meet that other person that's going through that same thing - man there's no better feeling than to know you're not alone.
CHAD SMITH: Well that's what music does.
It's the power of the connection.
ALICIA KEYS: It's amazing.
We might all be feeling crazy.
We might all be feeling uncertain.
We might all be feeling frustrated but we can all collectively, like not be alone.
