An encore of Great Performances – Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga: Cheek To Cheek LIVE! will air on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 9PM EST on PBS (check local listings).

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga sat down with PBS for an exclusive interview about singing jazz, their live concert on PBS, and more.

In this segment of their interview, the two stars — Tony Bennett, a jazz legend, and Lady Gaga, a young internationally acclaimed pop star — talk about jazz and making their collaborative jazz album, Cheek to Cheek.

“This is the most important album of my career,” says Lady Gaga. “It was an absolute privilege to sing with Tony.”

She says the album was a bit unexpected in her plans, though she started singing jazz first. “I’ve been dreaming of making a jazz album, I just thought I’d do it later in my career. Why not do it now, especially because I sang jazz before pop?

Tony Bennett adds, “For jazz artists, there’s no school you can go to. It’s a gift. It’s an improvised art. It’s about individualism, and how they feel about life, and how much they enjoy life. It’s a very wonderful creative art.”
