Marco Armiliato conducts Puccini’s score with tenor Yonghoon Lee as Calàf, the bold prince determined to win the princess’ love, alongside soprano Ermonela Jaho as the devoted servant Liù and bass Ferruccio Furlanetto as the blind king Timur. Great Performances at the Met: Turandot premieres beginning Sunday, September 4 on PBS (check local listings). Soprano Nadine Sierra hosts. The New York metro area premiere is Sunday, September 11 at 12 p.m. on THIRTEEN. The broadcast is part of season 16 of Great Performances at the Met that includes 10 new operas premiering monthly through November on PBS (check local listings).

In ancient, mythical China, three riddles dictate whether a royal suitor will win the princess, or lose his life. And the ice princess Turandot never shows mercy.

Still, Calàf will take the challenge.
