READ TRANSCRIPTDEBORAH POTTER, correspondent: I'd like to thank the Religion Communicators Council for recognizing our story about Dorothy Day with a 2014 Wilbur Award. I regret that I can't be with you in person, but I want you to know how much this award means to all of us at Religion & Ethics Newsweekly, including cameraman Greg Barna and soundman Chris Callus. The award honors not just this story but the work of an outstanding producer, Phil O'Connor, who died last fall. It was Phil's vision that brought Dorothy Day's remarkable life to life again in our story. Remarkable, when you think about it, that a story about a journalist, social activist and devout Catholic who died more than 30 years ago still resonates today. Having the opportunity to tell this kind of story is one of the great privileges of working for Religion & Ethics Newsweekly. Thank you for honoring our work.
By way of video, Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly will present this acceptance speech from Deborah Potter for a 2014 Wilbur Award on April 5 in Tennessee. R&E has won the award for its piece on the life of Dorothy Day, which aired on PBS in 2013. It was produced by Phil O’Connor and reported by Deborah Potter.
