Vatican Cancels Syria Trip

syriaAt the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI this week canceled a high-level papal delegation slated to travel to Syria to promote an end to the fighting there. The pope cited the region’s violence as the reason for canceling the trip, which was to include New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Instead, Benedict said he will send another group to Lebanon to deliver one million dollars in aid for victims of the Syrian conflict.
