Poll: U.S. Catholics Want New Pope to Emphasize More Liberal Teachings

poll-catholics-new-popeIn a new poll released this week, the New York Times and CBS News asked a sample of American Catholics what they want in a new pope. More than half—54 percent—said they want him to emphasize more liberal teachings than those stressed by Benedict XVI. A majority also wants a pope who favors married priests and women priests and one who is against legalized abortion and the death penalty.
