Pentagon’s New Policy Accommodates Religious Clothing

Religious groups were also reacting to an updated Pentagon policy on uniform and grooming standards. Orthodox Jews, Muslims, and Sikhs were among those welcoming the new rules relating to religious practices such as wearing beards and head coverings. The military says it will allow those things unless they hurt readiness and good order and discipline. However, some, including the Sikh Coalition, say the new policy still falls short of full accommodation because every request will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
