Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Washington this week. At a White House meeting, President Obama urged Netanyahu to advance the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Netanyahu also spoke before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, a pro-Israel lobby group. He said that if Israel was prepared to accept a Palestinian state, then Palestinians also would have to acknowledge Israel as a Jewish state. Before the meetings, a broad coalition of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim leaders reiterated their support for the peace process.
