Papal Interview: Francis Rejects “Superman” Image

pew-HEAD-smThis week, Francis once again raised eyebrows with an interview in a leading Italian newspaper. He suggested that the Catholic Church could tolerate some civil unions for practical reasons such as health care and property rights, although he repeated the church’s position that marriage is between a man and a woman. Francis also criticized what he called the mythology that has developed around him. He said “to portray the pope as a kind of superman, a type of star, strikes me as offensive.”
