In Egypt, there were protests of mass trials for those accused of being Islamist supporters of ousted president, Mohammed Morsi. Earlier this week, 529 defendants were sentenced to death for their alleged involvement in attacking a police station and killing a police officer. Human rights groups have been raising concerns about the fairness of the trials while Egyptian authorities push to prosecute the Muslim Brotherhood and other supporters of Morsi. About 16,000 people have been arrested in the crackdowns since Morsi was removed from office last July.
