The first major candidate in the 2016 presidential race is trying to rally religious conservatives. Senator Ted Cruz, who is a Southern Baptist, announced his candidacy this week at Liberty University, which was founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell. Cruz is trying to unite evangelicals and other religious conservatives, who are a key GOP constituency. Those voters have been divided in recent presidential primaries.
