In Kuwait, international donors pledged $3.8 billion in humanitarian aid for Syrians affected by the civil war. However, the sum is less than half of the more than $8 billion that the U.N. says is needed to address the crisis. The U.S. made the largest commitment, pledging more than half a billion dollars. Faith groups including World Vision have called on the international community to increase aid to the estimated 11 million Syrian refugees, about half the country’s prewar population.
