Report: Global Catholic Population Up

catholic-survey-320

A new report this week shows a huge increase in the number of Roman Catholics. The Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate says that from 1980 to 2012 the world’s Catholic population grew by 57 percent, from 780 million to 1.2 billion. The main reason: big increases in Africa and South Asia, with their high birth rates. The number of priests worldwide dropped by 17 percent over that same period.
