Humanitarian groups marked this week’s World Refugee Day (June 20) with growing alarm about the rising number of people displaced by conflict. According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, almost 60 million people were forced from their homes by fighting last year, the largest number since the UN began counting in the early 1950s. The most refugees were from Syria, where almost half the pre-war population has been displaced.
