Mormons Lead Effort to Make Records of Freed Slaves Available

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormons, is well-known for its vast genealogical archives. This week the church announced that it will help index more than a million handwritten records of four million former slaves and their families so they can be searched online.
