Pope Francis received a warm welcome this week during his trip to South America that included stops in Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay. In Ecuador, he led an outdoor mass for a crowd of approximately 800,000 people and urged an end to war and violence in Latin America. Throughout his visit he continued championing the poor, the environment, and pro-family causes—themes that are expected to be high on his agenda when he visits the U.S. in September. This week House Speaker John Boehner announced that the pope’s address to a meeting of the U.S. Congress on September 24 will be shown live on Jumbotron screens on the West Front of the Capitol, after which Francis might make a brief appearance to greet the public.
