Religious Groups React to Iranian Nuclear Agreement

Religious groups had wide-ranging reactions to this week’s historic deal to severely restrict Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting economic sanctions. The accord was reached after months of negotiation between Iran and a group of six countries led by the U.S. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was sharply critical, charging that too many concessions had been made to Iran, which would threaten Israel’s security. Several Jewish groups echoed his concerns. But other religious groups, including the Vatican, praised the deal as a step toward peace.
