The European Union has approved $2.6 billion in aid to countries struggling to deal with the worsening migrant crisis in Europe. This week 1,700 migrants were rescued off the Libyan coast while attempting to cross over to Sicily. The UN says more than 90,000 migrants have attempted to reach Italy by sea this year. The vast majority are from Africa and the Middle East, where violence and poverty have caused many to flee.
