The dean of Washington National Cathedral, Gary Hall, has announced that he will step down at the end of the year. He said the Episcopal cathedral needs drastic financial overhauls due to its shrinking endowment and requires a 10-year commitment from a leader. Under Hall’s leadership, the cathedral began holding same-sex weddings and expanded its interfaith efforts, hosting a Muslim prayer service last year. Mariann Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, will serve as the cathedral’s interim dean.
