Civil rights leader Amelia Boynton Robinson died this week (August 26) at the age of 104. She was often called the matriarch of the voting rights movement. Boynton Robinson was a key figure in the 1965 Selma march, and the widely published images of her being beaten by Alabama State troopers are considered a catalyst in the passage of the Voting Rights Act.
