In Kentucky, county clerk Kim Davis was sent to jail for contempt after refusing to comply with a court order to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Davis has maintained that issuing the licenses would violate her Christian beliefs, and she had said she’s prepared to go to jail for her faith. Earlier in the week she faced off with same-sex couples seeking to get married:

David Moore: “You’re supposed to issue marriage licenses.”

Kim Davis: “And we’re not issuing marriage licenses today.”

Moore: “Supreme Court denied your stay.”

Davis: “We are not issuing marriage licenses today.”

Moore: “Based on what? Why are you not issuing marriage licenses today?”

Davis: “Because I’m not.”

Moore: “Under whose authority are you not issuing licenses?”

Davis: “Under God’s authority.”

Moore: “Did God tell you to do this? Did God tell you to treat us like this?”

Davis: “I have asked you all to leave. You are interrupting my business.”

Moore: “You can call the police if you want us to leave. You can call the police…”
