This week, Pope Francis visited a Lutheran church in Rome, and in what came as a surprise to some, he suggested that Lutherans married to Catholics should decide for themselves whether to take communion in the Catholic Church. Francis emphasized that faithful Lutherans must listen to what God is telling them to do in their situation. The Catholic Church currently prohibits non-Catholics from participating in communion. Francis also said Christian denominations must forgive one another for historic persecutions.
