Russian Orthodox Patriarch Visits Antarctica

patriarch-600Pope Francis began his Mexico trip a week ago with an historic meeting in Cuba with Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill. The patriarch stayed on in Cuba, where he was honored by President Raul Castro and met privately with Fidel Castro. Then Kirill traveled to Antarctica, where he led services in a Russian Orthodox church at a Russian scientific research station. He also saw some of the wildlife. A spokesman said the trip showed the global reach of the Russian Orthodox Church.
