Ancient Roman Coin Discovered in Israel

02-Roman-Coin-600Antiquities officials in Israel have announced the discovery of a rare 2,000-year-old Roman gold coin near the Sea of Galilee. The coin was found by an Israeli hiker and is only the second known one of its kind. It contains a portrait of Caesar Augustus, who is mentioned in the biblical stories about Jesus’ birth. Authorities say the coin was minted by Emperor Trajan around the year 107.
