Religious groups had mixed reactions to President Obama’s nomination of veteran appellate court Judge Merrick Garland for the US Supreme Court. Some religious leaders said there was not enough time left before November’s presidential election for a thorough review of the nominee. Others demanded that hearings begin immediately. If confirmed, Garland would be the court’s fourth Jewish justice. The other five justices are Roman Catholic.
