Mississippi Governor Signs “Religious Freedom” Bill into Law

05-Mississippi-600More controversy here at home over the treatment of gays: Mississippi’s governor has signed legislation that allows churches, religious charities, and privately held businesses to decline services to gays, if that would violate their religious beliefs. Some states, including Vermont, Washington, and New York, have responded by banning state-sponsored travel to Mississippi. The new law is expected to take effect in July.
