Report Rates Countries that Tolerate or Perpetrate Violations of Religious Freedom

06-600Religious freedom is under serious and sustained assault around the world, according to a new report by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom. The commission recommended that the State Department add to the list of the world’s worst abusers a number of new countries, including Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Syria. The report highlighted rising anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim bigotry in Europe, the persecution of Muslims in Myanmar, and violence in Nigeria carried out by the Muslim extremist group Boko Haram. The commission also singled out India, where Hindu nationalist groups have increasingly targeted Muslims and Christians.
