Massachusetts Vigil to Save Church Ends

04-600St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church was one of the more than 75 parishes the Archdiocese of Boston ordered closed in the wake of the clergy sex abuse crisis. Last Sunday (May 29), it celebrated its last Mass. About 100 die-hard parishioners had kept the church open for more than 11 years by maintaining an around-the-clock vigil to protest the decision to close it. But earlier this month, the US Supreme Court refused to hear the group’s final appeal. At one point, nine churches in the Boston area were occupied by parishioners. St. Frances Cabrini was the last holdout.
