Pope Highlights Hunger, Food Relief at UN World Food Program

04-600Pope Francis made his first visit to the World Food Program, a UN agency that provides emergency food aid to 80 million people around the world. In a speech in Rome to thousands of workers and diplomats, Francis said it is a strange paradox that, in times of war, weapons can get in but food can’t. As a result, Francis said, wars rather than people are fed, and hunger itself is used as a weapon of war. He said food shortages are man-made and due to selfishness and the misdistribution of resources.
