First Philistine Cemetery Discovered in Israel

02-600After more than 30 years of excavations in Israel, archaeologists have discovered the first Philistine cemetery and the remains of more than 200 people. While experts say the discovery doesn’t prove biblical accounts are true, it is the first time they have proof of the Philistines, best known for the story of their famous warrior Goliath who was defeated by David and his slingshot. The Philistines lived in what is now southern Israel from around 1,200 B.C. until 604 B.C. when King Nebuchadnezzar destroyed their community.
