Clergy Join Oil Pipeline Protests in North Dakota

04-600In North Dakota, protests over a proposed pipeline continue. Last week, tensions between protesters and law enforcement officials erupted. Protesters set fire to several vehicles and signs, and approximately 150 were arrested after officers used pepper spray and other tactics to disperse the crowds. This week, a broad coalition of clergy stood with protesters and environmentalists who say the $3.7 billion pipeline threatens the region’s water supply and Native American sacred sites. The Dakota Access pipeline would carry oil from North Dakota to Illinois.
