French authorities have demolished a migrant camp in the northern port of Calais, and the last of those living there have now left. The camp once housed up to 10,000 migrants, mainly Afghans, Eritreans, and Sudanese. Many of those who had remained were children. France is hoping Britain will take in most of the unaccompanied minors. Britain has already welcomed about 300 children in the last two weeks. Earlier in the week, migrants at the camp attended the final service at a small, makeshift church. France’s government has been under pressure to move the remaining minors and avoid the reemergence of a new shanty town.
