Ohio and Texas Are Latest Battlegrounds over Abortion Rights

kasich-600-1Ohio Governor John Kasich vetoed a bill that would have banned abortion after the first detectable fetal heartbeat. Kasich, however, did sign into law a bill that bans abortions after 20 weeks, with no exceptions for rape or incest.

In Texas, abortion rights groups filed a lawsuit challenging a new law that requires fetal remains be buried or cremated after miscarriages or abortions. A federal judge blocked the law from taking effect until the case is resolved. Meanwhile, the state’s Catholic cemeteries have announced they plan to offer to bury any fetal remains at no cost.
